SNOWMOBILING

(ON AND OFF-SITE)

Skyport Lodge is the snowmobile destination in the Grand Marais/Gunflint Trail area! Snowmobile along hundreds of miles of groomed trails to and from Skyport Lodge. Enjoy our resort as a base-camp for your North Shore snowmobile adventures. There is abundant trailer parking on the old airstrip adjacent to Skyport Lodge. If you don’t own a snowmobile and would like to rent one, rentals are available from Steve’s Sports in Grand Marais or from Hungry Jack Lodge on the Gunflint Trail.

DOG SLEDDING

(OFF-SITE)

Points Unknown Adventures in Hovland (218-370-0283), also offers dog sledding experiences and lifestyle immersion programs.

ON-SITE DINING

Enjoy one of our house-made entrées, salads, pastas, sandwiches, steaks, shrimp or healthful kid’s meals at Raven Rock Grill while watching the sun set over Devil Track Lake. 

ICE FISHING

Looking to catch some walleye, smallmouth bass, trout, or pike? There are many great ice fishing spots off the Gunflint Trail. Call Little Vince’s Guide Service 218-388-9942, or Gunflint Fishing Guide to reserve a guided fishing trip.

HUNTING

Let your hunting adventures take you to Skyport Lodge! We are amidst thousands of acres of public lands for deer, bear, and grouse hunting. More info

FAT TIRE BIKING

Fat Tire Biking is available along the forest roads and on groomed singletrack trails at nearby Pincushion Mountain. Rent a fat bike from North Shore eBike in Lutsen or Sawtooth Outfitters in Tofte.

CROSS COUNTRY SKIING

The Gunflint Trail area has numerous groomed XC Ski trail systems, all within easy reach from Skyport Lodge. View and download maps

DOWNHILL SKIING

Lutsen Mountains, the Midwest’s largest downhill ski resort, is another stop not to miss. With 4 mountains and 95 runs from beginner to expert, they have something for everyone. Approx. 30 minutes from Skyport.

SHOP

​Explore the many art galleries and shops in downtown Grand Marais. Peruse through books at Drury Lane Books or browse through beautiful North Shore art at Sivertson Gallery and The Big Lake Life. Buy any last-minute outdoor gear you forgot at the Lake Superior Trading Post or Joyne’s Ben Franklin. 

HIKE OR SNOWSHOE

The hundreds of miles of hiking trails in our area are available for winter hiking or snowshoeing, and for snowshoeing, you don’t even need a trail! Just strap ‘em on and walk on top of the deep snow! Snowshoe rental is available at Stone Harbor Wilderness Supply.

LEARNING ATTRACTIONS

Check out what’s happening at our two art schools in town – the North House Folk School and the Grand Marais Art Colony. They may have woodworking, pottery, painting, printmaking, sculpture, writing, or cooking classes happening while you’re here. The attractions of the Cook County Historical Society are also popular places to explore.

MAKE S’MORES

After a day playing outside in the snow, warm up by our lakeside fire ring and make some s’mores with your loved ones!

LISTEN TO LIVE MUSIC

Grand Marais brings many great bands to the area during the winter. Check out the live music and events schedule.
